Man With Hunchback Killed in Edo State by Ritualists

It was a pathetic end for 62 year-old farmer identified as Mr Olomu, from Orhue community in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo state, who was murdered last week, after which his hunchback was severed from his body. The deceased reportedly hired some people to work on his farm but unknown to him, the labourers had been planning for three months to kill him so they can severe his hunchback and use it for money making rituals. Saturday  Vanguard  gathered from the confessions made by the suspects who were paraded by the Edo state Police Commissioner, Haliru Gwandu, that the idea to murder Olomu was mooted in a bar where the suspects went to have a drink some time last year. The ring leader of the group, Sunday Ajuma, on this particular day volunteered to work as a labourer in the farm of the deceased so as to get at him easily. According to Ajuma, “Six of us planned it.  The deceased asked me to go and wait for him along the road to the farm after I told him the previous day that I

Mark Zuckerberg sparks speculation about political future with 5,800 word global manifesto

M ark Zuckerberg  has sparked further speculation about a future political career after publishing a 5,800-word global manifesto. The Facebook co-founder and chief executive spent a month writing the missive in which he opened by asking the question: "Are we building the world we all want?" He suggested that some people had been "left behind by globalisation" and that efforts must be made to "bring communities together". Mr Zuckerberg, 32, said: "Facebook stands for bringing us closer together and building a global community. Yet now, across the world, there are people left behind by globalisation, and movements for withdrawing from global connection." Facebook was started by  Mr Zuckerberg in a Harvard dorm room in 2004, and he is now worth an estimated $50 billion. The social media magnate said his latest message,  published on his Facebook page,  was not motivated by any one particular event, not even the US election. W

Man to Pay for Crime he Committed 15 Years ago

A 72-year-old man has been jailed after admitting abducting and indecently assaulting a child more than 15 years ago. The six-year-old girl was taken from Barton-under-Needwood, Staffordshire, in March 2001 and assaulted . Arnold Baxter, of Bath Street, Rugby, Warwickshire, was caught after he was arrested for drink-driving on his birthday in September 2016 and his DNA profile matched samples taken from the coat of the victim. Baxter admitted driving to the village in a black Ford Mondeo with false registration plates, snatching the young girl and indecently assaulting her before dumping her in another village where she was found half an hour later by a passing motorist. He pleaded guilty to kidnap and indecent assault and was sentenced to nine years at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday. Speaking after the sentencing, the victim’s mother said: “My daughter has spent these last 15 years of her life growing into the beautiful and successful person that she is today and will continue to

Facebook takes on LinkedIn with new job ads

Today, Facebook is beginning the roll out of a new feature that allows job seekers to link up to hiring managers without ever leaving the platform. LinkedIn  executives, somewhere, are crying into a bucket of Ben & Jerry’s. The update allows business Pages to post job listings the same way they’d typically compose a status update. In addition to linking, sharing, and/or commenting, users also get the option to apply for the position using a baked-in “Apply Now” button. A quick press allows interested parties to fill out an application and submit it using Facebook messenger. An additional perk adds a Jobs tab to the Page and allows interested parties to see an aggregated listing of all open positions within the company — assuming it has posted them to Facebook. The feature seems like a win-win for both Facebook and job seekers. Aside from additional monetization potential, Facebook now has a leg up on LinkedIn due to the behavior of users on the site. Sharing, or taggi

Amazon and Google’s voice assistant speakers could soon become your next landline

While most folks are ditching their landlines because they now have a phone with them wherever they go, they might make a comeback as a feature in voice assistant speakers,  reports The Wall Street Journal . According to the WSJ’s sources, Google and Amazon  are considering adding the ability to make and receive voice calls to the companies’  Home  and  Echo  devices respectively. They’re currently equipped to handle tasks like controlling your lights and smart appliances, streaming music and ordering groceries online. Enabling voice calls would certainly make those voice-activated speakers a lot more useful, and give you another reason to stop carrying your smartphone around the house all the time. Of course, the big question is, how will calls work? Google already has a bunch of products like  Hangouts  and  Voice  for handling voice communication, and syncs your contacts’ numbers across its apps. It also has  Duo  for video calls and the company said last August that it

Microsoft open sources a simulator to crash-test drones, robots and self-driving cars

One of the biggest challenges in building autonomous vehicles is dealing with the irregularities of physical spaces outdoors: From electric poles to winding roads and bumpy terrain, there are lots of things that can trip up your creation. With that in mind, a team of researchers at Microsoft  have built and open sourced a simulation tool to help people train autonomous cars, drones and robots learn how to avoid obstacles just like they would in the real world. It’s called the  Aerial Informatics and Robotics Platform , or AirSim for short. Available for Linux and  Windows , it lets you generate a random environment to train your bot or vehicle, experiment with various models and test in a range of scenarios right in your workshop. It’s worth noting that the software isn’t designed to entirely replace real-world testing, but rather to complement it by allowing you to simulate a wide range of experiments on demand and as many times as necessary. In addition to creating de

A 7-year-old girl asked Google for a job and got a personal response from CEO Sundar Pichai

Chloe Bridgewater, who lives in Hereford, England, has a little more drive than most 7-year-olds. Fascinated by her Kindle Fire tablet and robots - and totally taken by the idea of working somewhere with bean-bag chairs, go-karts, and slides - Chloe decided to apply for a job at  Google . Here's Chloe's letter, shared with Business Insider by her father, Andy Bridgewater: Super cute, right? Imagine her surprise and delight when she got a letter back from the CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai, who encouraged her to follow her dreams. "I look forward to receiving your job application when you are finished with school! :)" he wrote. Take a look at the letter, shared in a  viral LinkedIn post  by Andy earlier this week: (Business Insider has confirmed the veracity of the letter.) In that LinkedIn post, Andy said the letter was a much-needed confidence booster for Chloe, who was "knocked down" by a car years ago. Chloe Bridgewater with
